|Student Chapters Overview|
|Written by Dan Beckett|
The Atlanta Chapter sponsors Student Chapters of the Association for CIS - degree students at universities, colleges and technical institutes in Georgia and North Carolina. Student chapters are required to have a faculty advisor who is a member of the Atlanta Chapter. The Director of Student Chapters assists schools in organizing student chapters and in helping these junior colleagues get started in the technical professions.
The Chapter, Region 7 and the national organization provide many opportunities that CIS students find invaluable. Students are helped to find internships in the IT community and are encouraged to attend regular Chapter meetings to get to know their future employers and to arrange internships, co-ops and work-study programs while they are still earning their degrees. Student programming competitions in COBOL, Java, C++, RPG, multimedia and web development are held frequently at local, regional and national competitions.
Currently, the Atlanta Chapter sponsors the following Student Chapters:
Students in degree programs at institutions that do not have a Student Chapter may join as a Student at Large. The annual fee is $35. On graduation, Student Chapter members and Students at Large are entitled to join the Association as Interim Members at a reduced rate. This is $78 for the first year following graduation, $88 for the second year, and $113 for the third year.
