June AITP Dinner Report E-mail
Written by Michael Ares

Attendees at last night’s AITP Atlanta Chapter Dinner enjoyed the insight and expertise of two experts in the rapidly emerging field of information management.

First up was David Jenkins, owner of TDnJ Business Consulting, who walked the audience through the evolution of the role of the CIO and just how dramatically that role has changed. The impact of technology advancement and ever-increasing business considerations were discussed in terms of how these two seemingly competing forces need to converge in today’s corporate environment.  David led a lively back-and-forth exchange with attendees covering exactly how today’s IT professionals need to position themselves to take advantage of prevailing industry trends in corporate and IT management.

The second presentation of the evening was led by Ron Carpinella, Vice President of Identity Management at Equifax, Inc., who introduced the innovative concept of identity cards.  A pioneer of the emerging identity card industry, Ron covered how quickly we are moving from the notion of online anonymity to an environment of identity proofing with user-centric controls, how this movement is preparing us for the future, what tools we will use and how will we ensure that our identities are both true and safe.

The organization seeks to provide avenues for all their members to be teachers as well as students and to make contacts with other members in the IT field, all in an effort to become more marketable in rapidly changing, technological careers.

The United Way of Metro Atlanta unites and mobilizes the strengths of metro Atlanta's finest companies, nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, government agencies and caring individuals.

The roundtable roster featured forward-thinking CIOs Hank Edwards from Tensar Corporation, Kathy Lamb from Ames Taping Tool Systems, Inc, Steve Brooke from Whoop, Inc. and Pete Mastin from Multicast Media. The panel was delightfully moderated by Bruce Kantelis from OpenSpan.
